Veg Out - Community Gardening with a St Kilda twist

The St Kilda Community Garden "veg out" sits on the site of the disused St Kilda bowls club that has been transformed into 150 plots of community interaction. The gardens promote themselves with a number of community events including an annual open day, tomato day, and the very popular carrots by candlelight. Carrots are holed out and a light is put in its place. The garden is alive with a number of animal pens which provide a great deal of excitement to the general public when they pop in. Over the last ten years the gardens have been used on Monday to provide homeless lunches for up to sixty guests. The veg out garden provides a complete tapestry of life - the disadvantaged, very intelligent people, single people, professional people and humble people who come from all manner of different backgrounds. The veg out community garden is a good leveller, that is recognised in the community as a great contributor to the suburb. It's a great place to spend your chill out time here.
